The Film:
In 1590 supply ships were dispatched from England to the tiny colony of Roanoke Island located just off the coast of North Carolina. When they arrived they found the settlment abandouned. Clothes hung on lines, food sat on tables. No signs of a struggle, no explanation. 117 Men, women and children vanished without a trace. No clues save a single word carved into the trunk of a tree. It has remained one of American Hostories greatest mysteries... until now.
Four hundred years later, on a remote island, four men will discover the truth.
The Filmaker:
"Why hasnt the story of the Lost Colony been made into a film?" Thats the question Tizzy founder and resident filmmaker R. Michael McWhorter asked himself several years ago. Surely he was wrong; but research showed that while it had been touched on in films such as Stephen Kings Storm Of The Century it had never had aa entire film dedicated to the mystery. R. Michael McWhorter set out to change that.
"Of Course my first thought was to make a film about Roanoake and the colony." McWhorter recalls, "but it was simply to costly. The fact that it was a period piece involving elaborate wardrobe and set design simply pushed the budget necesary out of reach." So McWhorter did the next best thing, "I adapted the story to what I had. It takes place in modern times over four hundred years after Roanoke with the same things responsile for the tragedy there thrust upon four men traped on a remote island. As the story unfolds the truth of Roanoke will be revealed."
So will we ever get to see the Roanoke colony translated to film? "Thats the plan. The story of Roanoke works as sort of a prequel to Within The Woods A concept has already been devoloped and as long as Within The Woods is a success I hope to be able to raise the budget necessary to see that realized."
